Favorite Fall Fishing

We all have that favorite story of heading to the lake in the fall to test your luck one last time before ice forms and you get into them.  Maybe that trip wasn't about catching big fish or a bunch of fish, maybe that trip was with someone you may never get to take fishing again.  In this weeks episode we recall some of our favorite fall fishing memories and the meaning they have for us.

Nope...not talking about filling your freezer.  Even though that maybe what happens.  We are talking heavy metal!  Not the "Motor City Mad Man" or Metallica, but jigging spoons and glide baits.  Heavy baits that work well when fished vertically during the fall and early winter.  They come in all different shapes, sizes and colors, but one thing is for sure...they produce fish!

Fall Transition Bite #1

As we watch summer in our rear view mirror we notice the fish maybe a little harder to catch.  A little harder to find.  It is transition time where the fish are beginning to school up in "wolf packs" on structure and vertical presentations become the ideal method for catching more fish.  Fishing is about to get really good, but we need to keep our tactics fluid and flexible so we can keep catching those Fall Transition fish!    

Desensitized

This bait is my favorite bait!  Two years later you can't get a bite on the same bait.  What changed?  In this podcast we discuss the theory of fish becoming desensitized to baits.  What bait will the next two year wonder be and what stands the test of time?  Why do fish seem to grow cold to baits after hot starts?  We discuss all these questions in...Desensitized!   

Dog Days of Summer

It's hot.  Really hot.  It's the dog days of summer and the old guys have hung up their Walleye rods till fall.  Not so fast!  Walleyes don't just disappear or go on a hunger strike because of the heat.  They just move and there is more competition with plenty of bait.  This time of year is when you really start to learn about Walleye fishing.  

Trolling #3 Midsummer

It's midsummer and your bite close to shore has vanished.  Traditional Walleye wisdom would have you believe the fish are deep in cooler water.  That is partially true, they are in the deep water but they are suspended only a few feet down.  During the hot summer days those fish slide out from night time feeding locations and they suspend over deep water and they relate to pods of bait fish suspended over the same deep water.  Trolling #3 midsummer suspended Walleyes.
